NUG opens representatives' office in Canberra, Australia

The National Unity Government (NUG) held an opening ceremony for the NUG's Australian office in the Australian capital, Canberra, on the evening of 3 August.

The Australian Greens, one of Australia's major political parties, announced at the ceremony that the Greens now recognise the NUG as the official Myanmar government and encouraged other political parties to do the same.

Senior officials from Australia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as New Zealand's Deputy High Commissioner to Australia also attended the ceremony.

Messages from the NUG Foreign Minister Zin Mar Aung and the NUG Justice Minister Thein Oo were read out. Members of the Australian parliament from various political parties also spoke at the event.

Also attending the opening were Prof. Dr. S. Tha Myint attended on behalf of Myanmar families in Australia, Mr. Christopher Lamb, the President of the Australia Myanmar Institute and the Myanmar actor Min Maw Kunn, who is actively participating in the Myanmar Spring Revolution.
