The ongoing night curfew under the 144 section (of Criminal Code) has been extended to another two months in Kyauk Taw township, where the military tension increased between the Burmese military personnel and Arakan Army members in recent days.
The curfew is extended till 2 October, said a notice issued by the township administrator U Kyaw Swar Nyunt on 2 August.
Under the restriction, none is allowed outside of their residences from 9 pm to 5 am. The markets along with the restaurants will also be closed during the period.
The notice revealed that there are apprehensions of a disturbing law and order situation in Kyauk Taw township and hence the night curfew has been extended for two more months.
A Kyauk Taw resident alleged that the night curfew has increased their troubles as they have to come back home from the workplaces a little early. He expressed resentments that during the period, when the military personnel were fighting against the AA members, no night curfew was imposed.
"9 o'clock in the evening is early in the city to wrap up work. We have to lose a lot of things because of it. I did not like the decision to extend night curfews,” he added.
The ruling military council has expanded its security network to various parts of Rakhine State and started inspecting the guest lists regularly. A number of AA supporters were also arrested during the raids.
The night curfew is reviewed and issued in need every two months in several Rakhine townships like Buthidaung, Maungdaw, Phonna Kyunt, Rathedaug, Kyauk Taw, Mrauk U, Minbya, Rambre and Ann.
