195 Myanmar nationals were stranded in Japan due to a temporary suspension of international airline flights due to COVID-19 pandemic.  According to the Ministry of Foregin Affairs, the travellers were on a Nippon Airways (ANA) flight. A relief flight was arranged to bring them back to Myanmar.

Another 92 Myanmar nationals who had been in Korea, were also affected by the suspension of airline flights.  According to a statement released on May 1st, by  Myanmar’s Embassy in Seoul,  this group will soon be returning to Yangon with the help of a second relief flight facilitated by Myanmar International Airline (MAI).

The Yangon Regional Government, the Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS) and the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population have arranged for the returnees to undergo a medical check-up as required by the Covid-19 containment strategy.

The returnees are being housed in hotels or quarantine centers for 21 days.
