The Myanmar military on Sunday released 15 native travelers, including Chamloiq Hkawng Nyoi who is a missionary of KBC along China-Myanmar border, after detention for 12 days in Myitkyina, Kachin State, according to the Kachin Baptist Convention the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC).
They were arrested under the directive of the Armed Forces Department, Ministry of Defense. Ms. Chamloiq Hkawng Nyoi , a missionary along China-Myanmar border from KBC, together with 14 other native travellers were handed over to the Myitkyina Police Station around 11 a.m. and then they were released later, according to Rev. Hkangdu Brang Shawng from Waing-maw township KBC.
The group consists of eight women and seven men were arrested on 24 October at Nam San Yang gate which is connected with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA)’s headquarter Laiza. They were blind-folded, handcuffed and then sent the Northern Military Command in Myitkyina.
The men were under investigation in the compound of LIB 37 while females were interrogated in the camp of Military Security Affairs Unit in the Northern Military Command, according to Ms. Chamloiq Hkawng Nyoi of KBC.
Before they were released, the women had to sign a confession written that they were no torture by the inspectors during the investigation, Ms.Hkawng Nyoi told Kachin News Group.
The Myanmar Government Laws say that no person is to be detained for more than 24 hours without legal charges.
