Approximately 600 electoral staff members will be overseeing 62 ballot stations during the 2017 by-election for the vacant Pyithu Hluttaw post in the Chaungzone Township constituency, Mon State, according to Mon State’s Election Sub-commission.
U Hein Linn Htet, a Mon State Election Sub-commission official, stated the above, and that the sub-commission estimated an appointment of 592 staff working at 62 ballot stations, including 62 station supervisors, 62 vice-supervisors, and 172 ballot checkers.
“We will appoint 592 staff across the 62 polling stations in Chaungzone Township. We decreased the number of the staff because there is only one vacant constituency at the Pyithu Hluttaw in this by-election,” said U Hein Linn Htet.
There were 127,249 votes cast at 62 poll stations in Chaungzone Township during the 2015 Election, according to the Mon State Election Sub-commission Office.
U Hein Linn Htet added that the Mon State Election Sub-commission has already reported to the Union Election Commission regarding the materials to be used at the ballot stations, the Sub-commission is gathering voter-lists door-to-door, and other detailed information about the by-election.
Beginning on November 1, the Mon State Election Sub-commission has been gathering voter-lists, based on the 2015 election voter lists, across the Chaungzone Township.
“In order to have every household able to cast votes in this by-election, we are now collecting voter-lists door-to-door. We have 15 days to collect the lists and after that we will make announcements for the eligible voters,” said U Tun Yi, chairman of Chaungzone Township Election Sub-commission.
In 2010 elections, All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP), Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), and National Unity Party (NUP) competed for respective constituencies in Chaungzone Township, but the AMDP won the constituencies for Pyithu Hluttaw, Amyotha Hluttaw, and Township Hluttaw.
