The EU announced on December 21 that they would provide Euro 70 million (US$ 76.09 million) to Myanmar for promotion of food security, the rule of law, and the peace process.

Under this assistance, the EU will provide funds for poverty reduction, food security and food safety through the Myanmar Sustainable Aquaculture Program (MYSAP), the EU announcement said.

The EU will also continue their police force modernization programme while also assisting in the peace process.

Since 2011, the EU has lifted sanctions imposed on Myanmar and provided financial assistance for more reforms, EU ambassador for Myanmar Roland Kobia said.

The announcement said that MYSAP will get Euro 20 million for poverty reduction, food security and food safety in Myanmar, Euro 30 million is earmarked for the rule of law and police modernization including capacity building, while the remaining Euro 20 million is allotted to the peace process.
