Ministry for Immigration and Human Resources Formed in Mon State

The formation follows similar moves in Chin and Kachin states and various regions.

The Mon State parliament approved the formation of the Ministry of Immigration and Human Resources in the state on Tuesday.

Parliamentarian Min Htin Aung Han, from Mawlamyine, said that the new ministry—created in an emergency legislative session—would create more job opportunities.

The state government separated the Ministry of Planning, Finance, Immigration and Human Resources into two ministries by placing immigration and human resources in the new institution.

The move to form the ministry followed a message from President U Win Myint suggesting that the original ministry be split into two.

Wunna Kyaw, the current planning and finance minister in Mon State, confirmed that the immigration and human resources department would be separated out from his ministry.

According to an official from the Mon State parliament, the next step is for the legislature to send proof of the approval to the President, who will then give permission to make appointments to the ministry.

“After a discussion between the President and chief minister, the chief minister must nominate the name through the President. I think it will be done in a few days. We will have another meeting to approve the new minister,” Dr. Aung Naing Oo, vice chairperson of the Mon State parliament, told NMG.

The Mon State government will now have 11 ministries.

According to a statement from the Office of the President, Chin and Kachin states and Bago, Sagaing, and Tanintharyi regions have also formed immigration and human resources ministries and appointed ministers to head them.
