Military Court Hands out Life Sentence to 23 Year-old CDM Teacher

A Tonzang Township teacher from Chin State, engaged in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), received a life sentence from a military court after being arrested and subjected to torture by the Junta.

23-year-old primary school teacher Lya-Wong He Keim, was unjustly sentenced to life imprisonment by the Junta on March 13, following her arrest two months prior, as reported by the Tonzang Township People's Administrative Team (Tonzang-PAT) on March 18.

"After enduring torture following her arrest, she faced a court-martial and was ultimately sentenced to life imprisonment. Her arrest stemmed from allegations by non-CDM government employees, accusing her, school teacher of collaborating with the CDM”, a source close to Tonzang-PAT said.

Lya-Wong He Keim and her father were arrested by the Junta troops on January 14th from their residence in Tonzang.

Following the arrest, the schoolteacher suffered severe beatings and torture from Junta troops, who showed no mercy. Her father also received a 7-year prison sentence.

Tonzang-PAT has issued a warning, vowing to exert maximum effort in holding accountable those responsible for the unjust arrest torture and life imprisonment of the CDM schoolteacher. They also strongly condemned the lengthy prison sentences handed down to Lya-Wong He Keim and her father by the Junta.
