Military Council’s Southeastern Command headquarters suffers nighttime attack

The headquarters of the Southeastern Command, located in Mawlamyine Township of Mon State, was attacked, resulting in explosions and damages, according to locals.

A nearby resident said he heard three explosions coming from the headquarters compound at approximately 9:40 PM on March 16th.

According to the man, the presence of anti-drone jammers in the Southeastern Command headquarters compound makes a drone attack unlikely. Instead, he suggests that hand-made rockets were potentially used in the incident.

"The next morning, as per the news, a building situated within the headquarters' premises suffered damage. However, the specifics of the incident remain unknown”, he said.

There are speculations among the locals that the headquarters might have been attacked with three handmade rockets. As per the reports, one of them landed near the families’ dormitories, another near the accounting office, and the third one exploded in a forest area. However, the Independent Mon News Agency cannot properly verify this information.

As of now, no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Southeastern Command headquarters.

In March of last year, the Military Council troops discovered two 107 mm hand-made rockets that were intended to be fired at the Southeastern Command headquarters. The rockets were found on Shwe Nat Hill in Mawlamyine, and the troops were able to deactivate them in time.

The Southeastern Command is a Regional Military Command Center that is responsible for defense, security, and military planning in the Mon and Karen States.
