Military Council uses local administrators as human shields in Kachin

The military council in Kachin State has taken the village administrators group as human shields to Putao township in order to stop KIA attack on the way.

A car is taking the Village Administrators group to Putao Township with the reason of calling them a meeting on June 5, at around 7 AM.

A local reported to KNG that he saw the administrators being put into a car and taken to Putao.

"The administrators were called to the school for a meeting. As soon as they got there, they were all taken in the car at once. It was to the Putao side," he said.

The Military Junta arrested 17 administrators and ten-households group heads from the Sumpyi Yang Village Tract for their security on the way and ask them to send to the 138th Infantry Battalion of Putao, Mulashidi.

They have released this afternoon.

Since the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has opened fire on a convoy of Military Junta troops on the highway of Sum Prabum and Putao, they have taken the administrators as human shields, according to local residents.
