Myo Thiri Kyaw — A man sustained a gunshot wound on April 7 while traveling by boat near Kan Htaung Gyi town in Arakan State’s Myebon Township, locals said.
Ko San Win Tun, 27, who lives in Kan Htaung Gyi town, was shot at around 4 p.m. while heading to Kazu Kyine village to pick up passengers who had arrived from Yangon, according to U Yan Naing Phyo, chairperson of the Kan Htaung Gyi funeral service association. He was shot in his left thigh.
“He was traveling along Darlat Creek. There are Tatmadaw troops on the left side of Swi Chaung village. We found out about it because people near the creek saw them,” said U Yan Naing Phyo.
Fighting occurred near Swi Chaung village, which is located beside Darlat Creek, in December.
Ko San Win Tun was brought to Kan Htaung Gyi Hospital, according to his family.
“We are poor and cannot afford to hire a private boat to take him to Sittwe [General] Hospital. We will go to Sittwe only when the passenger boat is operating,” family member U Thingyan Aung said. “Currently, we are just trying to make him feel more comfortable.”
Clashes between the Tatmadaw and the Arakan Army (AA) continue to plague Arakan State, with civilians bearing the brunt of the conflict’s casualties.
