Man from Mawkanin Village Arrested by Military for Alleged PDF Links

A middle-aged man from Mawkanin village in Ye township, Mon State, was arrested by military junta troops for allegedly having connections with the People’s Defense Force (PDF).

The man, identified as Ko Phoe Tote, aged 40, was taken from his home on the afternoon of June 16th by troops from the junta’s 106th Infantry Battalion, based in Mawkanin Village.

He was accused by the military of being affiliated with the Ye People’s Defense Force (YPDF). According to YPDF Battalion Commander Bo Yan Naing, although Ko Phoe Tot was once a group member, he resigned more than a year ago.

“He used to be one of our YPDF members. But he left the group over a year ago. Yesterday afternoon, soldiers from the 106th Infantry Battalion came and arrested him. He’s now being held at their base in Mawkanin,” said Bo Yan Naing.

Ko Phoe Tote is currently being detained at the 106th Infantry Battalion and has had no contact with anyone since his arrest.

In December 2024, a man named U Soe, and two of his family members were arrested on accusations of being linked to resistance groups.

In Ye township, which is under military rule, the junta frequently arrests civilians accused of having ties to revolutionary groups. Most are detained and are sentenced to lengthy prison terms.
