Man Injured in Landmine Explosion on Ye-Thanphyuzayat Highway

A landmine exploded while a was cutting grass on a farm near Aung Thar Yar village, Ye Township, Mon State, which is the Ye-Thanphyuzayat highway, resulting in injuries on July 23.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., Nai An Bin, a 47-year-old resident of Mawkanin Ywarthit village, was cutting grass on his farm near Aung Thar Yar village when a landmine exploded, severing his pinky finger.

"He has been going to the farm for about three days. While cutting grass, he got hit, causing the handheld grass cutting machines into two parts. There have been frequent explosions in Aung Thar Yar village," said a person close to Nai Ah Bin.

He added that Nai A Bin, injured in the landmine explosion, was taken to Lamaing Hospital for treatment by the emergency social rescue team.

The Ye-Thanphyuzayat highway, particularly around Aung Thar Yar village, has become a site of intense fighting between the military junta and the joint military forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People's Defense Forces (PDF).

According to local sources, there have been at least 5 landmine explosions in 2023 along the Road Bridge creek near Bekalwe village, Ye Township, Lamaing Town. The area is also known as for frequent shootings between the military junta and the joint force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People's Defense Forces (PDF).

Along with civilian deaths, there were also individuals who suffered leg amputations due to landmines.
