As the military council laid landmines at ferry docks in Kyaukgyi Township controlled by KNU Brigade 3 (Nyaunglaybin District), the residents told Than Lwin Times that they are reluctant to travel because they are worried about the danger of landmines.
On July 24, a 38-year-old villager on a motorcycle was injured after striking a landmine planted by the military council at Inpri ferry dock in Dalaseik village tract, Kyaukgyi Township, and was treated at Nyaunglaybin Hospital, according to KNU.
The regime forces closed all the ferry docks in June and planted landmines there to prevent the members of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) from crossing to the other side of the river.
A member of a local Karen social welfare group from Nyaunglaybin District said, "we don't know how many mines are planted. But those areas are places where the public travels, so it's very dangerous."
On the 9th of July, a boy aged five was killed when he stepped on a landmine laid by the junta army at Kyuangkyi ferry port.
There hasn’t been any fighting in recent days between junta armed forces and KNLA Brigade 3 in Kyaukgyi and Mone Township in KNU’s Nyaunglaybin District. Some of the residents who fled are returning to their houses, but the majority have not.
Due to military operations in Kyaukgyi Township, more than 16,000 locals were forced to evacuate and were having a rough time.
