Leaflets distributed in Indian cities to further support for democracy in Myanmar

The leaflets were distributed in Guwahati, the capital city of Assam state, India, from 1 pm to 4 pm on December 16 to raise awareness of the situation in Myanmar and increase support for democracy in Myanmar, according to the NGO India 4 Myanmar.

“It was distributed in crowded places in Guwahati city, Assam state. It will be distributed the next day in Shillong city, Meghalaya state,” Salai Dokhar, a participant in the movement, said.

It was also distributed in Paltan Bazar, Guwahati, 6 Miles Intersection, University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya City buses and on busy streets, he said.

This is the fourth time that Burmese in India and local activists have participated.

The first time was on 4 December in Aizawl city, Mizoram state, India, the second time was on 10 December in Imphal city, Manipur State, and the third time was 14 December in New Delhi

They distributed leaflets and explained the current situation in Myanmar.

During the campaign period, they met with representatives of 18 Indian civil society groups to discuss ways to work together for democracy in Myanmar.

India 4 Myanmar activists said that the civil society groups have written the requested letters to the Indian central government asking for a stop to India arms sales to the Myanmar military council, to support humanitarian assistance to Myanmar refugees and to stand with the people of Myanmar for the restoration of democracy.
