Landslide killed two workers in Mawchi mine

Two miners were killed on the spot by a landslide in Mawchi mining area in the Karenni (Kayah) State at 1:30 am on July 21.

Heavy rain triggered the collapse of dumped soil on the workers’ tent in lead mine plot no 51 in Mawchi area of Hpasawng Township.

U Aung Thu (age 27) and U Aung Win Tun (age 29) from Tha Lin Kone Village of Inn Ywar Gyi Village Group in Myothit Township were killed on the spot. U Zaw Linn (age 27) has been taken to the Loikaw Hospital after receiving serious injuries.

The authorities said the tent was built on unstable dumped soil.

The Karenni State government and the Department of Disaster Management provided one million kyats and Ye Htut Kyaw Company provided one million kyats for the deceased. The company also provided five tents for temporary use.
