Elected candidates from the Kayah State Democratic Party (KySDP) said they would work on the peace and regional development tasks.

The KySDP secured eight seats -the party competed in 30 constituencies in Kayah State, five seats in Phruso Township, and three in Shardaw Township.

Maw Moe Myar who secured the lower house seat in Shardaw Township from the KySDP said: “I have a plan to work on the peace, the rights of ethnic groups,  empowerment of young females and regional development tasks. I will be conscientious in carrying out these tasks. First I will implement the important public works in Shardaw Township as a priority.”

The KySDP’s candidate U Tu Yal who secured the upper house constituency-8 in Phruso Township said: “The first priority is peace. The second is Kayah State affairs. Thanks to the investments of our party members in Kayah State affairs, we can deal with land disputes, road transportation and development tasks. Peace is essential. I hope that affairs in Kayah State will lead towards peace.”

Daw Al Balin from the KySDP who secured the seat for Kayah State Constituency-2 in Phruso Township said: “We need to promote the education standards of people in the region. Only then they will get the qualifications to take a leading role in the region. The second issue is Phruso Township faces water shortages.

The third is the most important. Phruso Township has different ethnic groups and organizations. We need mutual recognition, respect and unity in the cause of regional development tasks, then I believe that we can march towards development together.”

Officials from the KySDP expect that the party would implement the federal affairs in cooperation with other ethnics, though the party did not win as many seats in the 2020 General Elections as expected.

There are 34 constituencies in Kayah State. In the 2020 General Elections, the NLD secured 20 seats, the USDP, six, the KySDP secured eight seats (it ran for 30 seats) The Karen National Party (KNP) secured no seat, though it ran for four seats.

Founded in 2017, the KySDP has made an alliance with the KNP to avoid confrontation in the constituencies in Kayah State in the 2020 General Elections.
