KNLA forces capture major junta military base in Kayin, reportedly inflicting heavy casualties

Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) forces attacked and successfully captured Mae Kha Hta base in the area of the 5th Brigade of the KNLA in Karen (Kayin) State, according to KNLA sources.

This military base is one of the largest operated by the military junta in the area. Reportedly, more than 40 soldiers from the junta were killed during the attack.

KNLA is the armed wing of the Karen National Union (KNU).

On 28 March at 6:40 am, the KNLA Brigade 5 launched an attack on the junta army's Mae Kha Hta base, successfully capturing it.

More than 40 junta soldiers, including military officers, were killed, and from the KNU side, four were injured, according to the KNLA sources. A significant amount of weapons and ammunition were seized by the KNLA.

The battle lasted for about 50 minutes.

A KNLA source said that the junta cannot conceal that news anymore as there is a village on the Thai side and what is happening in the base can be seen from the other side of the border.

It is reported that the Mae Kha Hta base is a large military base with a force of a few hundred troops.
