Maungdaw Land survey officer U Htun Hla  Pru and his assistant staff U Hla Thein are asking for huge sum of money to issue property map since April 2016, said Halim, a human Rights watchdog from Maungdaw.

The officers and his staff asked more than 2 million kyats for one map inside the municipal areas, and outside of the municipal areas need one million kyats for one map, Halim added.

The prices are only for Rohingya community who need their properties maps to keep clear for future of their family. However, the officers are asking huge amount of money to get a property map, said Anwer, a property owner who try to get a map of his property.

But people from other community get the map easily without paying any charges or needn’t follow the officer demand, Anwer said.

The officer U Htun Hla Pru is posting at Maungdaw Land Survey Office since 2004 and he was not transferred to other municipality, said Ahmed, an ex-government officer.
“Htun Hla Pru abused the Rohingya-owned land by doing away with the Rohingya property paper. He is the only person in the Land Survey Office who can abolish or change name for land ownership,” Anwer said.
