Some Rohingya farmers are facing difficulties as paddy cannot be grown in their paddy fields in the upcoming rainy season due to tidal flood, which destroyed many paddy fields in Maungdaw south since January 2016, Mohin, a resident from Maungdaw said.
The tidal seawater is recurrently inflowing into a number of paddy fields caused by breaking down of banks of a stream. More than 20 acres of arable lands have been destroyed by the tidal water, he added.
Mostly lands owners of Khonzabill village under the Alei-than-kyaw village tracts will have to face difficulties supporting their family members in near future, Korim Uddin, a farmer from the village said.
Korim also said that the concerned authorities are not taking any step to rebuild the dyke of the stream, which is breaking down day by day. If the embankment of the stream is not built, the tidal water will destroy more paddy fields in future after sea water crossed the barrage.
However, the villagers have requested to the concerned authorities to build the dyke of the stream in order to prevent the tidal seawater, said Malek, an elder of the village.
