Junta forces preparing to enter Waibula in Chin State

Junta troops, who have been operating in recent days along the highway linking Kale (Kalay) Town in Sagaing Region to Gangaw Town in Magway Region, are now attempting to enter Waibula Town in Falam Township, Chin State, according to resistance frontline sources.

“Junta troops first reached Mualzawl Village in Falam Township around noon on November 3. There are signs they might continue moving toward Waibula soon. It looks like they want to take control of the section of the Kale-Natchaung Road that leads into Chin State,” said a resistance source.

Junta troops, attempting to reclaim resistance-held areas along the Kale-Gangaw Road, entered Harkharlay Village in Falam Township on October 31 and set several houses on fire. The advancing troops also forced tens of thousands of residents in nearby villages to flee for safety.

“The junta troops are still holding positions in Harkharlay as of October 3, and reports suggest they may move toward Waibula. The situation for the displaced people is really dire. It’s been raining nonstop for three days, causing serious hardships for those sheltering in the forests. Food is running low, and many are sick due to seasonal illnesses. On top of that, the displaced are scattered across a wide area, making it nearly impossible to know exactly how many there are,” said a member of the Lighthouse aid group, which is assisting displaced people in southern Kale Township.

More than 30,000 residents from 36 villages have been displaced by the junta’s military operations along the Kale-Gangaw Road.
