Junta Blocks Food and Medicine Deliveries to Ingapu Township Villages

The junta has completely blocked the delivery of food and medicine to two villages in Ingapu Township, Ayeyarwady Region and is only allowing limited supplies through to other villages in the area.

Since 25 July 2025, junta checkpoints have prevented any food, medicine or fuel from entering the villages of Kyeepin and Htonepaw in the foothills of the Rakhine Yoma Mountain Range. The junta is also preventing villagers from the nearby villages of Peinhnekwin, Taungsin, Padatkone, and Gwetgyi on the Pathein to Yangon highway from bringing in more than five days worth of supplies to those villages.

An  Ingapu Township resident said: “The junta imposed these restrictions through an official order letter. Now, all food shipments are being strictly inspected at the entry checkpoints in both Ingapu and Kwin Kauk towns [both in Ingapu Township].”

During May 2025, there was fighting between junta soldiers and resistance fighters in Ingapu Township that forced the junta to retreat from several villages.

Locals have condemned the junta's ban on transporting medicine and food into their communities and said that it is a deliberate attempt to starve civilians.

Another Ingapu Township resident said to DMG: “Maybe the junta's trying to cut off the resistance’s supply lines, but in the end, it’s the people who are suffering the most. What the junta is doing is basically starving the locals.”

In May, the junta also imposed restrictions and bans, that are still ongoing, on the delivery of food and medicine to several villages in Yegyi and Lemyethna townships, near to Ingapu Township, in Ayeyarwady Region.

The Arakan Army (AA) and the Ayeyarwady Region People’s Defence Force (PDF) Tactical Command 29 were fighting the junta in Ingapu township and are still fighting the junta in Lemyethna, Pathein, and Thabaung townships in Ayeyarwady Region.

In recent days junta reinforcements have been transported by river to Lemyethna Township. According to frontline resistance forces, fighting is still ongoing in some parts of Ayeyarwady Region.
