The regime’s forces arrested a teacher who had joined the protest movement after going door-to-door to search every house in Bhamo, Kachin State, last week.

“The teachers of the CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) are resisting the military’s slave-like education system,” said a local woman who asked that her name not be mentioned. The regime charged teachers who refused to return to their jobs.

According to the woman, armed forces arrested Ei Lin Khine who was a teacher at Malula Primary School before she and many others joined the protest movement. Soldiers found the former teacher in her home in Shwe Kyi Ner ward on 7 January.

According to local reports, another teacher was picked up on 9 January. At press time, the KNG could not confirm the identity of the second teacher.

”I heard that they already have a list of CDM members, so they checked all the houses,” a resident told KNG on condition of anonymity.”I think the Burma Army will arrest more people in Bhamo. It is better for those who joined the CDM to go into hiding.”

Last October, the junta released some prisoners, but some were immediately re-arrested and since then soldiers and police have arrested more people.
