Junta arrests 11 locals following drone strike on Lemyethna Township school

The junta has detained and interrogated 11 villagers after a drone bomb struck a school in Yinse Village, Lemyethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region.

On August 27, a drone-dropped bomb exploded inside Yinse Village school’s compound, injuring at least 15 students and teachers.

Shortly after, junta troops entered Yinse Village over three consecutive days, arresting a total of 11 villagers, a local told DMG.

“They took both men and women. The villagers were taken for questioning over the drone strike on the school, and none of them have been released yet,” he said.

Among the detained Yinse villagers, Ko Min Thu, Ko Chit Ko, Ko Ye Thurein, Ma Thuzar, Daw Khin Hnaung, Ma Myint Myint Lay, and Daw Khaing Khaing Thin have been identified. Junta troops abducted a total of 11 villagers on August 28, 29, and 30. They are all currently being held at Aing Tha Pyu Village Police Station in Lemyethna Township.

“The soldiers have blocked all the entrances and exits to the village and are arresting anyone they suspect. All of the detainees are civilians. Maybe the school was actually bombed by the junta troops themselves. It’s very likely they made up a story to frame the resistance forces and intimidate the villagers,” another Lemyethna resident suggested.

Yinse Village, about six miles from the active combat zone between junta and resistance forces, is under junta control.

Skirmishes, though not severe, are occurring intermittently in Lemyethna Township along the Pathein-Monywa Highway, with military tensions running high between the two sides.

In Ayeyarwady Region, the Arakan Army (AA) is carrying out operations in Lemyethna, Yegyi, Ingapu, Thabaung, and Pathein townships in collaboration with the local People’s Defence Force (PDF) unit, Tactical Command 29.
