Intense fighting erupts between Tatmadaw, Northern Alliance

The Tatmadaw and the Northern Alliance have been engaged in heavy fighting in Tamoenye Sub-Township in northern Shan State since Sunday (August 12).

A local resident told K.N.G that fighting broke out between the battalions under the Tatmadaw’s 11th Light Infantry Division (LID-11) and the Northern Alliance members - the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), also known as the Kokang Army – from 4 pm to 9:30 pm on Sunday and fighting resumed on  Monday morning.

“Fighting broke out under Nan Phar Mountain near Man Kawng Village. It broke out from morning to night yesterday and resumed at 7:17 am this morning,” said the local resident.

According to local residents, fighting broke out after a large number of forces from the Tatmadaw entered the area.
