Increasing Arrests of Undocumented Migrants in Thailand

The number of Myanmar nationals arrested for illegal immigration into Thailand surged to over 400 in April, according to local media outlets.

Out of the Myanmar nationals arrested in April, 258 were men, 87 were women, and 4 were minors, with the majority of arrests occurring in Kanchanaburi District.

On April 1, a vehicle entering Kanchanaburi from an illegal route overturned, resulting in injuries to 14 Myanmar nationals.

Following the activation of the Junta’s implementation of the conscription law on February 10, numerous Myanmar youths have been fleeing to neighboring Thailand by any means available, with reports indicating that brokers are charging between 15,000 and 30,000 THB per individual to facilitate their journey to Bangkok.
