Union Enterprise for Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development (UEHRD) Chief Coordinator Dr. Aung Tun Thet said that the building of infrastructure will be started this week in Maungdaw and Buthidaung.
“Maungdaw and Buthidaung are underdeveloped areas so we will focus on these areas. The monsoon season will start in April so we have little time to complete this work. We have only six months for the project. We must implement this project with great momentum,” Dr. Aung Tun Thet said.
Construction companies will collectively build infrastructure including roads and bridges and the cost of the projects will be borne by donations to the UEHRD fund but some companies reportedly will not charge.
Initially they will build reception centre offices on the border and the government announced that they would receive those who come back to Myanmar through verification.
Construction and Infrastructure Task Force (CITF) patron and business tycoon Zaygabar Khin Shwe said, “We must start the construction of reception buildings for receiving those who will come back from Bangladesh as the number one priority. We shall repair these buildings first and other damaged buildings. Secondly we will go to the construction sector to provide electricity and running water.”
Business tycoon Zaygabar Khin Shwe said that this project would include building a road connecting Sittwe and the Bangladesh border and a large renovation plan for the old airstrip in Sittwe.
UEHRD was formed on October 15 and has received 16.7 billion kyats as donations from 22 businessmen for implementing of these infrastructure projects.
