Authorities in Kachin state resettled 95 refugee families in newly built low-cost housing in Waingmaw township on Tuesday evening, the first time that the government has built shelters in the area for civilians internally displaced by civil war, RFA reported on 19 June.

The homes were built under the direction of the Department for the Development of Border Areas and National Races under Myanmar’s Ministry of Border Affairs.

Authorities will hold an opening ceremony on on the 20 June and provide food for the new inhabitants who have been residing temporarily in the Thagara Thayettaw Monastery, Khat Cho, and Mongna Catholic internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.
