The government’s Peace Commission (PC) and Delegation for Political Negotiation (DPN) formed by United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC) have reached agreement on many points for signing Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) at a meeting held yesterday.
The 8th meeting between DPN and PC is being held at National Reconciliation and Peace Centre (NRPC) office in Shweli Road, Yangon.
UNFC issued a press statement which says they had reached agreement from point number 3 to 8 in their 8-point proposal presented to the government by DPN.
The points agreed to relate to the deployment of troops, forming a monitoring committee with representatives of international governments, to form an arbitration committee to resolve violations of the NCA and coordination with local people and local ethnic armed forces for projects conducted in ceasefire areas.
UNFC press statement says unconcluded points number 1 and 2 are to declare nationwide ceasefire across the country within 24 hours by the government and military after reaching an agreement and to establish a federal democratic union with national equality and self-determination.
Today’s meeting between UNFC and the government is the 8th meeting between them, and they have been in negotiations for 15 months.
UNFC consists of New Mon State Party (NMSP), Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), Arakan National Council (ANC), and Lahu Democratic Union (LDU).
