Fierce fighting in Sagaing's Indaw Township

There was fierce fighting between local defence forces and junta troops on the Indaw to Kyaung road in Sagaing Region's Indaw Township on 22 August, according to the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), one of the groups involved in the fighting. Six junta soldiers and four defence force fighters were killed in the fighting, according to an Indaw PDF fighter.

"We fired on the Military Council soldiers who were coming from Htee Chaing Township in Katha District of Sagaing Region. We lost members in the battle", he said. He also explained that the fighting started at around 9:00 a.m. on 22 August and lasted for about 45 minutes. There was a second encounter at around 2:00 p.m. that lasted for more than an hour.

Currently, junta troops are stationed in Kyaung Kone Village, in Indaw Township, which has caused many villagers to flee the area, according to locals. Among the defence forces involved in the attack were the KIA, Indaw PDF and Htee Chaing PDF.

The defence Force fighters who were killed were a 23-year-old KIA soldier, an 18-year-old and 23-year-old from Htee Chaing PDF and a 35-year-old fighter from an unnamed defence force. They have all been buried.
