Electrification plan earmarked for over 600 villages in Chin State

An electrification plan will be carried out for 645 villages in the Chin State’s rural area, which are located more than ten miles from the national power grid, within three years using interest-free loan from Italy, Amyotha Hluttaw MP U Myo Htike from the Chin State’s Paletwa Township said.

The national electrification plan (NEP) plans to carry out a three-year project to bring electricity access to the rural areas in the Chin State, Sagaing Region, and the Naga area using the Italian interest-free loan.

MP U Myo Htike said a proposal on this plan will be submitted to Pyidaungsu Hluttaw on August 3 and it will be carried out after receiving approval from the hluttaw.

“MPs who want to discuss this proposal will discuss in Pyidaungsu Hluttaw. I can’t say whether the hluttaw will approve it or not. If it’s approved, the government will implement it. Currently, it has only been earmarked,” he said.

If the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw approves the proposal, electricity access will be provided using solar home system and mini-grid to 215 villages in 2018-19 fiscal year, 215 villages in 2019-20 fiscal year, and 215 villages in 2020-21 fiscal year in the Chin State.
