Doctor given prison term for insulting religion

A Myanmar doctor Tuesday was found guilty of insulting religion for his criticism of conservative monks over a proposal to include sex education in the school syllabus, Anadolu Agency reported.

A 31-year-old physician, Kyaw Win Thant was arrested in Meikhtila on May 21 after he shared several posts on Facebook criticizing Buddhist monks who oppose the plan to teach sex education in schools.

He was given a one year and nine months jail term.
