The State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi told the Mon State Minister of Social Affairs to personally inspect the Mawlamyine Hospital.

She told this to him during a question and answer session with the public at the end of the public talk on June 14.

The public raised questions about how the elevator is out of service in the Mawlamyine Hospital, lack of gentleness in transporting patients, the rude behavior of doctors, and lack of hygiene in the hospital.

The Minister of Social Affairs Dr Htain Lin said the ministry will try to repair the elevator as soon as possible, instruct the staff to speak gently to the patients, and appoint more staff.

The minister said the doctors sometimes act impolitely to the patients out of anger due to lack of balance between doctor-patient ratio.

In response to the minister’s reply, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said: “Briefly speaking, the minister who is in charge of the health [sector] needs to personally inspect the hospital and improve it quickly.”

Regarding the question of the Mawlamyine Hospital’s lack of hygiene, the minister said special duties have been assigned to the cleaning staff to keep the hospital clean as much as possible.
