CDF-Matupi announces conscription drive set to begin in Matupi

The Chin Defence Force–Matupi (CDF-Matupi) has announced plans to launch a conscription drive in Matupi Township, in southern Chin State.

The defence forces under the Chinland Council have begun implementing the conscription policies established by the Government of Chinland, administered by the council, CDF-Matupi announced on March 24.

As the conscription drive is set to begin, those wishing to leave its controlled territories will be required to obtain a valid permit issued by it, CDF-Matupi added.

CDF-Matupi also urged eligible locals to join its ranks for military service, calling it a fulfillment of their national duty.

Khonumthung News attempted to contact CDF-Matupi for further details on its conscription policies but did not receive a response.

The CDF-Matupi has decided to enforce the conscription law as the junta intensifies efforts to regain control of territories it has lost in Chin State, the group said in a statement.

The Ministry of Defense of the resistance-run Government of Chinland approved the conscription policies during the first meeting of the Defense Coordination Team (DCT) on February 14. The policies will be implemented by all Chinland Council member groups, Ministry of Defense spokesperson Salai Nai John Kim told Khonumthung News in late February.

In addition to CDF-Matupi, other armed groups under the Chinland Council such as CDF-Tonzang, CDF-Hakha, CDF-Thantlang, and CDF-Hualngoram have also reportedly begun implementing military conscription plans.

There have also been reports that eligible young men are fleeing some townships in southern and northern Chin State due to fear of conscription.
