Burned remains of 2 individuals missing between Falam and Hakha discovered

The charred remains of two individuals, who had mysteriously disappeared between Falam and Hakha townships in Chin State, have been discovered.

According to sources familiar with the victims' families, the bodies were found at a location where the Military Council had set up a temporary camp along the Thipho route connecting Hakha Township and Hniarlawn new village.

On May 22nd, following the departure of Military Council troops from the camp, family members of the missing individuals conducted a search in the area, only to discover burnt remains.

An eyewitness stated that the victims, a man and a woman, were tragically burned beyond recognition, making identification difficult.

"When the soldiers departed from the camp, we conducted a final search of the area to provide solace to the grieving family members. It was during this search that we came across two charred bodies. The state of the remains is extremely distressing, rendering it impossible to discern their identities. However, we discovered an embroidered Tedim traditional longyi, which the woman had taken with her prior to her disappearance, alongside the bodies. This finding strongly indicates that the two bodies indeed belong to the missing individuals”, he said.

The two bodies were transported to the residence of their relatives in Hakha, where the funeral proceedings took place and were concluded on May 23rd.

On May 2nd, Ma Ciin Hua Vung (37), a resident of Tedim, and U Lian Za Thawn (32), residing in Hakha, mysteriously disappeared near the Military Council’s temporary camp while traveling by motorcycle from Falam to Hakha in order to renew their passports.

Despite the efforts of their family members, who conducted their own searches as well as sought assistance from the local defense forces, no information regarding the missing individuals was obtained. However, on May 22nd, following the departure of the Military Council troops, the family members went to explore their camp and tragically discovered the charred remains of Ma Ciin Hua Vung and U Lian Za Thawn.
