An equestrian statue of Bogoke Aung San will be unveiled at Gandha Hay Wun Park in the Kayah (Karenni) State’s Loikaw on Martyrs’ Day, which falls on July 19, according to Loikaw Township Municipal’s deputy director U Than Tun.

“The opening [ceremony] has been earmarked for the upcoming Martyrs’ Day,” he said to the Kantarawaddy Times.

During a meeting held at the Kayah State government office on February 1, the Kayah State government and ward and village group administrators decided to spend Ks 50 million to build the equestrian statue of Bogyoke Aung San.

Construction of the pedestal for the statue is underway in Gandha Hay Wun Park and the statue will be cast by a bronze sculptor in the Mon State.

The Kayah State government previously told the meeting that budget for the bronze statue would be provided by the state government and donors.
