Arakan Army (AA) spokesman Khaing Thu Kha told Mizzima that they arrested and detained firefighters because they were a reserved force of the military.

The AA arrested firefighters and some civilians travelling on a Sittwe bound ‘Shwe Pyi Thit’ express bus which departed from Mandalay on October 11.

They arrested 18 trainee firemen who had passed Basic Fire Fighting course, 12 civilians and Deputy Township Officer of Fire Services Department.

“Recently Army, Police, Fire Department and Prisons Department held meeting for giving us trouble,” Khaing Thu Kha added.
