The AA yesterday has released nine people including staff from Su Htoo San Company, which were arrested during fighting, spokesperson of the AA told the DMG.
Nine detained people have been safely handed over their pastor and village elders from Auk Kin Ta Lin village in Paletwa Township, the AA said.
“We have tried many times to release them, but there were delays because the fighting near the region is intensified. We did the best for their security and living during their detention,” the AA’s spokesperson Khaing Thukha told the DMG.
The AA released Saw Ko Ko Naing, Hla Myo Aung, Zaw Myo Thu, Kyaw Myo Tun, Thein Han, Thein Zaw Tun, Tun Lin Aung and Zaw Naing Tun from Su Htoo San Company and Phyo Min Oo from Nan Hman Thit Sar Company.
Khaing Thukha said that the AA has instructed its lower ranking members not to torture prisoners of war and to protect them as much as possible.
“Previously, we transferred detained people through the ICRC. Our members are instructed not to torture POWs and to protect people’ safety and prosperity as much as they could. We always instruct them to follow international standards and ethnics on human rights,” he said.
Staff from Su Htoo San Company were arrested on 30 March while they were working on the construction of the Myanmar-India road section in Paletwa Township, Chin State, they were accused of being former military intelligence members.
