471 Students Enrol for Matriculation Exam in Chin State

471 students have registered to take the 2025 matriculation exam for university entrance at the only two exam centres in Chin State.

A source close to the Hakha Township Education Department said: “There are only two exam centres in all of Chin State that will conduct the 2025 matriculation exam. Students will sit for the exam at BEHS [Basic Education High School] 1 Hakha and BEHS 1 Tedim. The BEHS in Khaikam Town also intended to open an exam centre, but no one enrolled to take the exam there.”

The five-day matriculation exam will take place from 17 to 22 March

As of 4 March 2025, 314 candidates had registered to take the matriculation exam in Hakha Town and 157 candidates had registered to take the exam in Tedim Town.

But, students can enrol for the exam up to the day before the exam, so it is impossible to predict the final number of students who will sit the exam, the source added.

435 students sat the matriculation exam in Chin State in 2024, the lowest number to ever sit the matriculation exam in Chin State. Of those, 34 had to take the exam later than everyone else in April because they had difficulties attending the exam on the official dates.

338 students from Chin State passed the matriculation exam meaning they were allowed to attend junta-run universities.
