In the six months since Kayah (Karenni) State opened a Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) branch, nearly three dozen new companies have registered.
Officials running the branch see it as a way to reduce the red tape around business operation and to promote transparency.
“In the past, [business owners] had to go to Nay Pyi Taw, Taunggyi or Yangon [to register]. Now that we have opened a branch here business owners can easily register their companies and make investments,” said Daw May Myo Zaw, the state DICA officer. She added that all states now have a branch except Chin State.
According to Daw May Myo Zaw, if a company wants to register, the DICA branch will verify the name submitted and then issue a card the following day.
In total, 163 companies are registered with DICA in Kayah State. Most relate to the construction industry, followed by trade.
