Burma's ruling junta reported it destroyed 20,362.04 acres of opium during the annual opium eradication campaign 2009-2010 (till May 6). 2009 UNODC report said the opium cultivation was increased three straight years in Burma. Opium growers in Kachin State said the junta destroyed some opium fields besides the main roads only and demanded cash from others during the campaign.
