The ceremony honored young people arrested, persecuted and sent to prison by the government. The annual event, which started ten-years ago, is modeled after a similar one in South Africa.

The Students and Youth Congress of Burma (SYCB) is an umbrella organization of students and youth organizations representing various ethnic groups from Burma.
