Kachin National Forum calls on Panglong Agreement Anniversary to keep resisting the Military Regime

On the 76th anniversary of the signing of the Panglong Agreement, the Kachin National Forum (KNF) issued a 3-point statement calling for the continued fight against the terrorist Military Council.

An official of the KNF told KNG that 9 Kachin civil organizations issued a statement on the 76th Panglong Agreement Day to continue opposing the military, which has seized power unjustly.

“We announced our view on Panglong Agreement Day, which is also the Union Day. Even though the Panglong Agreement was signed, our ethnic groups were not able to enjoy the essence and rights of the agreement. That's why we continue to fight until now. Now, our statement was decided to be released to coincide with the special day”, the KNF official said.

KNF urges the local and foreign organizations and the public not to participate in the election to be held under the leadership of the terrorist Military Council, and keep opposing their reign, the official added.

“They are plotting to hold elections and gain legitimacy for themselves. But we all know that their election will be illegal, and no one will accept it. We all have a responsibility to oppose them. Therefore, I would like to urge all the people and organizations to keep resisting”, he said.

Kachin civil organizations have already joined with some other unnamed organizations to accelerate their efforts against the sham election of the Military Council, the official confirmed.

KNF, made up of 9 Kachin civil organizations, is a forum that collectively solves various issues and disputes happening in Kachin State.
