Drunken Burma Army (BA) soldiers reportedly attacked a home in Sagaing Region where no fighting was happening, killing a pregnant woman and seriously wounding a one-year old and an adult.

Two other adults from the same family were also hurt by the shell that struck their home in Shein Makar, Wetlet Township, a local source told NMG on condition of anonymity because he feared reprisals. The man said the soldiers fired three artillery shells from Shein Makar Police Station and one hit the family’s house.

The baby and a 60-year-old woman were admitted to a hospital a day after the 7 November attack. On the same day, about 50 soldiers burnt down some homes in Pitauk Chon and then returned to Wetlet, which is next to the village.

Already over 5,000 residents of 10 villages have fled the BA troops patrolling the township. The regime is waging a major offensive against the Sagaing-based resistance groups fighting to overthrow the dictatorship, but has also launched persistent attacks on the civilian population.
