Missing administrative official and 100-house-group elder found dead in Sinbo

An administrative official and a 100-house-group elder from Sinbo in Kachin State who vanished on the previous day were found dead, according to the locals.

Residents from Aung Mingalar Ward in Sinbo Township found the bodies of the administrative official and 100-house-group elder, more than a day after they were reported missing.

“Rumours are spreading in the market that they were lured by a phone call and assassinated”, a Sinbo local said.

“On October 7, they were separated from the other officials while on a field trip. At that time, they were receiving phone calls continuously. They told others that someone was waiting for them, before going apart”, he said.

The two who went missing on October 7 were found a day later, on October 8.

Their bodies were found on the old road between Sinbo Township and Myinthar Village, where there are few pedestrians. Locals said that both died from injuries caused by beatings on the heads. Their hands were seen back tied too.

No group had claimed responsibility for the murders, locals said.

The two men slain were the administrative official of Aung Mingalar Ward, U Maung Htut and 100-house-group elder U Hla Sinn. The two phones that U Maung Htut was carrying were also disconnected from around 3:00PM of October 7, after the two disappeared, according to the sources close to them.

The motorcycle they were riding was found about 40 feet from the crime scene. The motorcycle key was recovered in the 100-house-group elder’s hand, but the administrative official’s two phones were still missing, some witnesses said.

The administrative official and 100-house-group elder were at a monastery when an unknown person called them by phone. They left and never returned. Only dead bodies were found a day later.
