There has been a resurgence of COVID-19 infections in some schools in Mon State in September, community health volunteers told Than Lwin Times.

New cases were reported at a basic education high school in Paung, Mon State on the 12th of September as the nation's virus infection rate started to rise again.

After testing the sick students in the school, it was found that three boys and two girls, for a total of five students, were infected.

Although the school was found to be infected with COVID-19, the school remains open, so the parents of the students are worried about the spread of the disease.

Now, five infected students are being monitored and treated at the quarantine center in Paung Township.

Last year, a mass infection of COVID-19 occurred in schools in townships – Paung, Chaungsone, Thanbyuzayat and Ye - where schools were forced to open by military council.

 Since September, the number of those infected with the virus has increased across the country; on September 12, 189 cases were reported, according to the data released by the junta-held Ministry of Health.

In Mon State, there were more than 4,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 between January and September 12 of this year, 20 of which were dead.
