Injured Sagaing PDF mine-makers ‘return to duty’ following accidental explosion

Four Chaung U Revolution Army (CRA) fighters who were injured by an accidental explosion while making mines have been discharged from hospital and have returned to duty.

On 12 June, the four members from CRA suffered severe burns due to an accident while making gunpowder for hand-made mines, and were treated by the Nay Oo Yaung Ni Medical Group.

The CRA company (2) is stationed in the east of Chaung U Township, Sagaing Region.

“There were six soldiers in the tent, but four were hurt. Two soldiers were injured in their chest, back, and thigh. One was very seriously injured in his head, face, chest and back. Another one has burns on his legs," said Ye Naung, who is in-charge of the Nay Oo Yaung Ni Medical Group.

The latest news is that two of the injured men have returned to duty, and two are poised to return.

Two were discharged a week after the incident. The soldiers Pho Chit and Khant, who were the most seriously injured, were discharged from the hospital in the last week of July and are currently resting in a safe place. The two of them have been informed that they can continue to serve in the CRA soon, according to CRA’s in-charge.

In remote areas, local resistance forces experiment and develop hand-made weapons, gunpowder and mines to fight against the junta forces. Since they are not technical experts, potentially lethal accidents often occur.
