The Junta spokesperson, General Zaw Min Tun, said that the military council will continue to stand firm against the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in accordance with international law.

The response came after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on July 22 rejected Myanmar’s four preliminary objections to the case brought by Gambia alleging Myanmar is responsible for genocide against the Rohingya minority.

Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun said that the decision of the ICJ will not only affect Myanmar, but that this decision will have an effect on all countries of the world because it is the court’s ruling.

He added that Myanmar will continue to take a firm stand against the Gambia's lawsuit in accordance with international law, and he hoped that the ICJ court would stand to test its ability in international law.

Moreover, Major General Zaw Min Tun said that the ICJ accepted the representatives sent by the military and handled the cases, which meant they recognized the military council as the government under international law.

The NUG’s Human Rights Minister, U Aung Myo Min, said that he welcomes the decision of the ICJ court and will cooperate with the rulings made by the court.

The delegation led by U Ko Ko Hlaing, the junta Minister for International Cooperation, went to the ICJ to rebut the case filed by Gambia.
