Homeowners Attack Maid In Taninthari Division

An eleven-year-old child was hospitalised after her employers poured hot water on her in Myeik District, Taninthari Division.

According to a neighbour, Ko Zaw Lwin and his wife Ma Chit Chit, who own a restaurant and beer bar in Kam Gyi in Kyunsu Township, beat up and burnt the girl, who was looking after their child in their home in Shwe Gal Nyo.

Several neighbours who saw the couple beating the minor on Monday, 20 June, informed the village headman, who took the girl to hospital with burns on her head, back and hands.

A shopkeeper selling medical items offered to pay for her treatment.

Local residents told NMG that the couple forced the girl, who was hired as a maid, to work in their restaurant, carry their water and look after their child. When she refused, they beat her.

Police arrested the couple an hour after they attacked her.
