Military council demands ransom money for unlicensed cars

Members of the military council have demanded tens of millions of ransom money for unlicensed cars near the Sittaung Bridge at the exit of Kyaikto Township, the sources familiar with the matter told Than Lwin Times.

A group led by Captain Myo Myin Aung regime’s Vocational Training Camp have seized numerous vehicles including unlicensed cars, for security reasons and extorted money.

Unlicensed vehicles are reportedly permitted to leave after paying a ransom of 100-150 lakhs per vehicle.

In addition, they inspected licensed vehicles for safety reasons and brazenly asked for Ks 10 000-20 000 for incomplete documents.

The extorted money received from car seizures are not disclosed to top management and are allocated proportionally from lower ranks to strategic commander levels.

The military council, on the other hand, has been collecting money from the automobiles imported from Myawaddy to Mandalay, Tachileik, and Taunggyi.
